green iPod: Cannot search by phonetic spelling. (2009/07/07)

From iPhone OS 3.0, we can search songs in iPhone. This is the feature what we have expected. We can search by song name, artist name and album name but we cannot search by "Yomi" phonetic spelling of these criteria.

We can configure the phonetic spelling at the "Sort" tab in the song info window by using iTunes. And then, we can search by "Yomi" phonetic spelling. Please make it available so that we can search by "Yomi" phonetic spelling of song name, artist name and album name as the same manner as using iPhone.

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 3.0

yellow iPod: A song disappears temporally from an album. (06/22/2009)

A part of songs are not displayed in a hierarchy of an album name when performing the steps described hereafter in a multiple disc album as follows.

Configuration of the album

Operation steps type 1

  1. Touch "iPod" - "Album" - "Album Name" - "Any song in Disc1".
  2. Touch Track List button on the upper right hand after the playback of the song.
  3. Touch another song in the Track List.
  4. Touch Back button on the upper left hand.
  5. Confirm the displayed song list as the screen returns to the hierarchy of "Album Name".

Originally, all the songs in Disc1 and Disc 2 should be displayed in the step 5.

However, only a song in Disc 1 is displayed actually.

Operation steps type 2

  1. Touch "iPod" - "Album" - "Album Name" - "Any song in Disc 2".

However, only a song in Disc 2 is displayed actually.

Environment:iPhone 3G, version 3.0

We thought it was a bug in the period of versions from 1.0 to 2.2.1, but another bug with similar characteristics occurred. For iPhone OS, an album with songs mixed by compilation and without compilation seems to be its defect. (iPod touch: Track is dropped from the track list.)(Japanese)

green Memo: We wish to sync with MobileMe. (06/22/2009)

From iPhone OS 3.0, we can sync iPhone memo with Mail.app memo. It is a feature we have expected. However, we need to connect iPhone to Macintosh computer before syncing. We cannot sync through MobileMe.

Memo in Mail.app has already be able to sync with other Macintosh computers through MobileMe. Please take it forward and make it possible so that it can sync with iPhone.

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 3.0

yellow Mail: Cannot search message text. (06/22/2009)

There is a search feature in "Mail" and it is also an object of Spotlight. However, the objects of the search are only 3 kinds such as From, To and Subject. As we cannot search message text, we can do nothing but reading all the messages in order to find information from the message text.

Please add message text as a search object.

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 3.0

red Mail: Cannot tap the conversion candidate in the last line. (06/22/2009)

Japanese input at the end of the context messageWe cannot decide conversion candidate by tapping, during the Japanese input at the end of the context message when we create new message by using "Mail". However, we can choose "next candidate" by tapping and decide by double-tapping.

Please make it possible so that we can tap conversion candidate even in the last line.

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 3.0

red Messages: Cannot make keyboard hide. (06/21/2009)

keep displayed even after the messageWhen working in an input column of "Messages", a keyboard is displayed. This is fair but the keyboard is keep displayed even after the message input. For this reason, existing message is difficult to read as a half of the screen is occupied by the keyboard.

Please let keyboard hide by tapping keyboard or screen position where message is not displayed.

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 3.0

red Messages: Cannot erase the carriage return in the first line. (06/21/2009)

SMSで本文1行目を消せない状態Perform the following steps in "Message", after displaying the message input column.

  1. Enter first sentence, and press return at the end of the sentence.
  2. Enter second sentence.
  3. Move cursor in front of the second sentence and press (BackSpace) key.

The carriage return at the end of the first sentence should be disappeared and the second sentence will be connected to the first sentence originally.

However, the cursor only moves to the end of the first sentence actually. In this reason, the carriage return remains although we delete all of the first sentence by keep pressing the (BackSpace) key.

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 3.0

red Messages: Improper position of the Send button. (06/21/2009)

"Send" button of "Message" is located above (BackSpace) key in the Japanese numeric pad but its is located above O and P keys in the English keyboard. According to this allocation, it conducts sending errors when using (BackSpace) key, O key and P key to be pressed.

"Send" button should be located at the top of the screen.

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 3.0

red Messages: Cannot perform search. (06/21/2009)

There is a search feature in "Mail" and the search criterion becomes also an object of the Spotlight. However, there is no search feature in the "Message". There is no way other than keep scrolling the list of the message in order to find information out of the past messages.

Please add the criterion into the object of the Spotlight so that make the search feature available in the "Message".

green Map: We wish to employ electronic compass. (10/01/2008)

If we do not know which direction we are heading for, we cannot decide which way to go even we have a map. It will be solved if we carry a compass. However, more simple solution is to have a built-in electronic compass (magnetic sensor) for the next iPhone model.

It is already in production as a one-chip device, and employed by Japanese mobile phones since 2004.

yellow iPod: Genius button is meaninglessly displayed. (09/29/2008)

MessagesWhen tapping Genius button (Genius), "This song does not have enough related songs to create a Genius Playlist." is occasionally displayed. User experience will be worse as it shows that the button does not function after tapping the button.

There is an instruction telling that the button not functioning should be shown as a fainted color to distinguish from the functioning button. That is, Genius button (Genius) should not be shown on the screen in this case.

green Contacts: We wish to use Smart Group. (09/24/2008)

A group which has been created using Address Book running on Macintosh computer can sync with iPhone's "Contacts". However, we cannot sync Smart Group with iPhone's "Contacts". We cannot even create it by using iPhone.

Please make it possible so that we can use Smart Group also by iPhone, since it is a convenient feature.

Environment : iPhone 3G, Version 2.1

green Contacts: We wish to create a Group. (09/23/2008)

A group which has been created using Address Book running on Macintosh computer can sync with iPhone's "Contacts". However, we cannot create a new group and modify contents of the existing group by using iPhone.

The users who are using ordinary mobile phones cannot understand this limitation. Please make it possible to create and modify groups.

Environment : iPhone 3G, Version 2.1

yellow iPod: Changing the song order in playlist does not reflect. (09/22/2008)

When syncing a playlist which is created using iTunes, the order in the playlist will be reflected from iTunes to iPhone. When sorting by "Artists" "Albums" and "Last Played Date", the sorted results are reflected to iPhone.

However, in the case of Genius playlist, the sorted result is not reflected even sorting by "Artists" "Albums" and "Last Played Date". It is reflected only when dragging and sorting the order of the songs manually. Please correct so that it will behave as same as the other playlists.

Environment : iPhone 3G, Version 2.1

yellow iPod: Based song of the Genius playlist is changed. (09/19/2008)

A based song set by using iTunes turns into another song by using iPhone when performing the following procedure.

  1. Create Genius playlist using iTunes 8.
  2. Change based song from the first position to the second position or later in the playlist. (Figure 1)
Change based song to the second position
  3. Sync Genius playlist with iPhone.
  4. Display Genius playlist by using iPhone. (Figure 2)
The mark is put on the first song in the Genius playlist

By nature, Genius mark (Genius) will be put on the based song, but it is put on the first song in the Genius playlist as a matter of fact.

Moreover, the abnormal behavior is only when displaying. Tapping the "Refresh Playlist" button by using iPhone, the based song moves to the first position and a Genius mark (Genius) is added.

red Phone: We can make a phone call while being locked with a passcode. (09/12/2008)

Emergency callTurn on the "Passcode Lock" by choosing "Settings" - "General". Then we need to enter passcode before manipulating iPhone or making a phone call. However, the exception is to dial emergency number such as 911 (110 and 119 in Japan). This could be the specifications.

On the contrary, we can make a phone call without unlocking when following the procedure below while locking.

  1. Tap the "Emergency" button in the "Enter Passcode" screen.
  2. Tap the "Call" button after entering the non-emergency call number.

That is all. If we pick up somebody's iPhone, we can make unlimited phone calls paid by the owner. We are amazed with this weakness. Immediate improvement is required.

red iPod: There are some MP3 files we cannot playback. (08/02/2008)

Playing certain MP3 files which we can playback by using iPod touch (version 1.1.4), there are some out of these files which we cannot playback by using iPhone (version 2.0).

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 2.0

An object of the comparison: 1st generation iPod touch, version 1.1.4 (with Software Upgrade)

red iPod: There are some movies we cannot playback. (07/30/2008)

messageSome of the movies which we can playback when using the version 1.1.4 environment cannot be played back when using the version 2.0 environment. It resulted with a message "This movie format is not supported.", although we can sync it from iTunes to iPhone.

yellow iPod: Cannot select rating when playing back music video. (07/30/2008)

music video and musicUsing the version 2.0, it has been improved so that video can be played as well as sound when playing music video in the Music screen. Moreover, we can choose the vertical view as well as the horizontal view. It is a significant improvement. (upper figure: left, lower figure: left)

However, the following features are not available for music video playback although they are available for music playback.

Then, we have considered these two ideas for the improvement.

Idea #1

How about having a track list button (above figure: a red circle on the right hand) instead, deleting "Done" button on the upper left hand side of the screen? There is no chapter in the music video generally. It means that we can use Next/Fast-forward button instead of "Done" button.

Idea #2

music video and Idea #2The video fits the screen when tapping "Scale" button on the upper right hand corner of the screen (below figure: left). How about adding the followings under the title row in this case (below figure: right)?

Environment: iPhone 3G, Version 2.0

green Settings: How about disabling 2G network? (07/15/2008)

NetworkUsing iPhone, we can switch ON/OFF at "Enable 3G " from choosing "Settings" - "General" - "Network". It is useful when using in the overseas locations, but it is meaningless to turn it off since 3G is necessary in Japan. We can save battery consumption when using only 2G while disabling 3G.

Then on the contrary, how can we save battery consumption when using only 3G while disabling 2G compared to using both? In this case, please add a setting to "Enable 2G". It is meaningless to enable 2G in Japan.

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 2.0

yellow List: We wish to have Japanese language index other than "Contact". (07/14/2008)

iPhone 2.0 supports Japanese language in the index of "Contact" list. "あかさたなはまやらわ" is added in front of alphabet. However, the index with only in alphabet is displayed in each list of "iPod" even now.

Please improve so that we can use Japanese language index in every list.

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 2.0

Amendment (08/08/2008)

Fig.1 Fig.2 Fig.3 Fig.4
(These are Fig.1, Fig.2, Fig.3, and Fig.4 in order.)

Going to "Settings"-"General"-"International"-"Language", set language as "Japanese" beforehand.

There is an index on the right hand side of the contact list (Fig.1) when using "Contacts" application. The index turns into the Japanese supported version when there are contacts entered using Japanese language in the "Last Fast" column. When using the version that supports Japanese language, Hiragana is inserted between Search (upper end) and "A".

Using "Phone" application, the index of the Contact list (Fig.2) also supports Japanese language version.

However, the index does not support Japanese when using "iPod" application. Supporting only English language, it shows like "ABCD...XYZ#". Artists list (Fig.3) and Albums list (Fig.4) are attached as the samples.

The list with Search feature supports Japanese language (Fig.1, Fig"), but the list with no Search feature supports only English (Fig.3, Fig.4).

In addition, going to "Settings"-"General"-"International"-"Language" and set language as "English", all of the indes will turn into English language version.

yellow iPod: Cannot sync only unplayed movies. (07/14/2008)

When using iPod touch (version 1.1.4), there are following options when syncing movies using with iTunes 7.7

However, there is only a following option in the iPhone 3G (version 2.0) when syncing the movies using with iTunes 7.7.

We wish to have a feature to sync watched movies automatically in order to reduce the manual step to select movies.

Settings screen to sync movies
iPod touch (version 1.1.4) iPod touch

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 2.0

green iTunes Store: Cannot purchase songs by using cellular phone network. (07/14/2008)

We can purchase songs by using cellular phones operated by other companies. Isn't it about time for Apple should discontinue these specifications to require Wi-Fi network when purchasing songs, since 3G network is already supported?

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 2.0

red Keyboard: Japanese language input and conversion get slower. (07/14/2008)

When entering Japanese language into a form using Safari, the speed of the character entry and its conversion get slower and slower as the time goes by. It is confirmed by using Japanese numeric keypad. An immediate improvement is required.

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 2.0

red Clock: Alarm sounds in the Silent mode. (07/13/2008)

Set an alarm at "Clock" - "Alarm" with iPhone. Then, enable Ring/silent switch at the side of iPhone. Users expect that the alarm does not sound and vibrate at the set time.

However, it vibrates as expected and the alarm sounds unexpectedly. It is written as the specifications in the "iPhone User Guide", but it is meaningless to have Ring/silent switch in this situation.

Please revise the specifications to make it silent or improve so that we can select vibration at "Clock" - "Alarm".

Environment: iPhone 3G, version 2.0

red Ringtone: We wish to change Ringtones other than the phone. (07/13/2008)

SoundWe can change Ringtones of the phone and New Text Message at the "Settings" - "Sound" with iPhone. However, we can only set ON/OFF Ringtone for New Voicemail and New Mail and we cannot change the kind of the sounds. This specifications are not accepted while the users use email more than phone and SMS in Japan.

Please improve so that we can change these Ringtones and use custom Ringtones created using iTunes.
